Doctor Strange is one of the newly introduced characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with his first film having aired at the end of 2016. I just recently saw this film and holy heck!!!
Doctor Stephen Strange is an arrogant neurosurgeon, thirsty for adrenaline and overindulging on his impulse to spoil himself. He suffers a tragic accident after which he is no longer able to work and so he starts seeking remedies in many different places and ends up speaking with a guy who recovered from an injury that he was not really supposed to recover from. The guy refers him to a place in Nepal, and skeptical, Strange leaves for Nepal to seek the learning that allowed him to heal so miraculously.
In Nepal, Strange’s world completely turns over and he gets humbled and becomes something he never believed he could be – someone who cares for the fate of the world, someone who will fight for the good and not just live off the adrenaline provided by impossible cases that he arrogantly solves.
The film allows a lot of room for thought. The story lines are incredible (again, I am not very familiar with the comic books and how accurately it is all portrayed), the villains are intriguing, the special effects are so well done that I think that had I watched it in theater, I might have gotten a bit of motion sickness.
I think that this is one of the best Marvel films and it is definitely worth the watch. The way that Mr. Cumberbatch transforms into Doctor Strange is so mesmerizing that he somehow manages to turn him into a mix between Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark – the intellect of Holmes and Stark, with all of the arrogance.
This film is definitely rated 5/5 stars and I am absolutely looking forward to part 2.
Which MCU film is your favorite?
