City of Bones by Cassandra Clare | The Mortal Instruments

This is probably my third or fourth re-read of the series and this year I am doing it in honor of the upcoming publication of Queen of Air and Darkness which is the final book in the The Dark Artifices Series as part of the Shadowhunter Chronicles. This time around I didn’t do a reread of The Infernal Devices but if you are curious about the series, you can check out my review on it here.

The Synopsis:

Clary’s act of rebellion starts with going to the Pandemonium Club, where she witnesses a murder. A murder committed by three teenagers that are covered in tattoos and have weapons. How can she report that murder when there is no evidence?

That is how Clary first meets the Shadowhunters, whose destiny is to protect the world from demons. Very soon after, Clary is pulled into their world with desire for vengeance after her mother is kidnapped and Clary gets attacked by a demon. But why would a demon attack an ordinary human?

City of Bones is a tale of finding yourself, exploring past related to you, embracing your truth and finding your family.

I highly recommend reading the book, and before you might ask what I think of the film and the TV show – I love both. The film came out shortly after I read the books for the first time and it is to date one of my favorite films and I am so sad that they couldn’t keep filming the series with the cast they’d chosen, BUT the show is way better in so many ways – it strays from the canon at times and the seasons have dived into the different books in a bit of a random way, BUT the characters are more grown up and there is diversity and love and so many other good things that I sincerely hope that this show will be revived.

A quote“Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?’
Jace said, “Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself.”
…”At least,” she said, “you don’t have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland.”
“Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting.”

My rating: 4/5 stars
