Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas | Throne of Glass

I was offline for maybe 5 days when this first came out because I really didn’t want spoilers. I am going to my absolute best to avoid spoiling it for you too, because this book is epic and should not be spoiled. Once again, kudos to the people who had to wait two years to find out what happens, I only waited a month and a half because I read the series for the first time not long before Kingdom of Ash was published.

The Synopsis:

The final battle is here.

Aelin Galathynius has vowed to save her people―but at a tremendous cost. Locked within an iron coffin by the Queen of the Fae, Aelin must draw upon her fiery will as she endures months of torture. The knowledge that yielding to Maeve will doom those she loves keeps her from breaking, but her resolve is unraveling with each passing day…

With Aelin captured, friends and allies are scattered to different fates. Some bonds will grow even deeper, while others will be severed forever. As destinies weave together at last, all must fight if Erilea is to have any hope of salvation.

My Thoughts

What I liked about this book: I was scared and excited for this book. I fortunately came upon the series less than 3 months before the publication of Kingdom of Ash and I didn’t have to wait that long for the book itself, but the hole that was left in my chest after that ending of Empire of Storms made me really anxious about the outcome. I really liked that all loose ends were tied, that we got closure on almost all fronts and it felt epic. That’s all I can say – this book is epic.

What I didn’t like about this book: Me saying that the book is epic, does not mean that there are parts that I didn’t like! I was incredibly annoyed by Aedion’s behavior towards Lysandra, I wept at some particular moments during that final battle, and yes it’s unrealistic for everyone to survive but one can hope that everyone will make it, right? Those deaths were just … I was speechless and crying for a while.

A quote: “She would not go quietly.”

My rating: 5/5 stars. This is one of my all-time favorite books and I am forever in awe of this world.
