The Cruel Prince by Holly Black | The Folk of the Air

I read this book last year and I must admit that I definitely was on a fae-kick and I fell for the hype surrounding the series on the Internet. I have no regrets, though.

The review might contain mild spoilers.

The Synopsis:

Jude is envious of all the beauty that surrounds her. She is also envious of the power and glamour and she wants all of that for herself.

Growing up in Faerie, Jude has wanted nothing more than to feel like she belongs there even though she is mortal. Ten years later, she still doesn’t quite fit in Faerie, let alone in Court so she learns how to navigate palace gossip and deceptions and in the process, Jude discovers how capable she is of being wicked and how capable she is of doing great deeds to save her sisters and Faerie itself.

My thoughts:

What I liked about the book: Reading The Cruel Prince was a very pleasant experience – the book is funny, it has enough tension between the characters, there is character development, an intriguing plot and a well-fleshed out world for a first book of a series. I enjoy reading books that keep me on edge and this series (not just book one) did that for me. The book has some hilarious moments, some pretty intense moments and there were twists that were absolutely surprising for me. Jude and Cardan’s storyline is naturally my favorite and even after completing the series i’d love to read more about them.

A quote: “I like for things to happen, for stories to unfold. And if I can’t find a good enough story, I make one.”

My Rating: 5/5 stars
