I binge read The Blood of the Stars duology last summer and it’s still one of my favorite stories to this day. With this being said, I found Unravel the Dusk slightly underwhelming in comparison to Spin the Dawn but it’s still a very good book.
Maia’s task to make the magical dresses of the sun, the moon and the stars is proving to be very difficult. When she goes home the kingdom is on the brink of war and her whole world is upside down. The journey to obtain those magical essences for the dresses not only changed the way she saw the world but it also brought on physical change – Maia had risked everything and is likely to lose herself because of it.
What I liked about the book: I loved how this world is built, the mythology and the magic system are amazing. I loved the romance between Maia and Edan, especially in Spin the Dawn. I think that the challenges Maia faced built her character and her romance with Edan was well played out for the most part. I adored Edan from the moment he was introduced and he saw through Maia, I found that particularly hilarious.
Also, the ending of this book was so touching and beautiful.
What I didn’t like about the book: I felt like the second part of the book was rushed and maybe things could have been worked out better with more time and space for action, rather than rushing it out to finish the series.
A quote: “I know that for every dawn, dusk must unravel its darkness.”
My rating: 3/5 stars
