Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare | The Shadowhunter Chronicles

The highly anticipated ending to The Dark Artifices finally came out and I have so many feelings about it! Beware: this review will contain spoilers so keep reading at your own risk if you have yet to read the book.

The Synopsis:

Innocent blood was spilled in Idris and in the wake of this death, the Clave is on the brink of Civil War. The Blackthorns separate – some going to Los Angeles to find a way to help the warlocks, as Emma and Julian take on their mission to go back to Faerie, retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead and save everyone they love before the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone close to them.

My Thoughts:

What I liked about this book: This book is very good – not only action wise but also with character development. It is a brilliant end of a trilogy and it brings you so much heartache that you are guaranteed a book slump combined with an intense hangover.

I have said this many times before – I don’t know if I will ever recover from Lord of Shadows . When Queen of Air and Darkness first came out I avoided Instagram to dodge any possible spoilers and then I wanted to scream off the top of my lungs. I love the Blackthorns and I’ll always be interested to learn more about Julian and Emma, the little Blackthorns too. What happened to Livvy was devastating and unfair and I still cry thinking about it. Livvy was one of the best characters.

I fricking loved that this book gave us polyamory representation with Christina, Mark and Kieran. Throughout the series their dynamic kept me on my toes and seeing how the relationship unfolded was all kinds of amazing.

What I didn’t like about the book: I found that the way they played out the parabatai curse was unsatisfactory, but even with that being said – had it played out another way I probably would have been unhappy too. With all that being said, Julian and Emma have had more than enough pain in their life to justify the parabatai curse playing out this way.

A quote: Every choice has a long afterlife of consequences. No one can know the eventual outcome of any decision. All you can do is make the best choice you can make in the moment.”

My rating: 5/5 stars
