This is my favorite book in the series and there might be spoilers in the review.
Poppy didn’t believe that her life would turn out the way it has – least of all in the love aspect. She wants to enjoy her newfound happiness but there are more pressing matters – finding and freeing two brothers. To do that, she and Casteel take up a dangerous mission with dire consequences if all fails because the future of the kingdoms is in Poppy’s hands.
What I liked about the book: Oof, this was a wonderful third book which only built further upon the already established grounds of the world. I think Poppy had the most character growth from the whole series and I really think that she is starting to find and establish her place in the world of Atlantia. By the end of the book, I think she had gained everyone’s respect as Queen and that’s everything. Personally, I love how Cas’ arc changed and how much he’s settling into himself as well. The dynamic between Kieran, Casteel and Poppy is one of my favorites and especially in the way that Kieran shoots sarcasm at Poppy every now and again, never fails to make me laugh.
I definitely think that development and plot-wise this is the best book in the series so far. Also, the scariest for me.
What I didn’t like about this book: Oof, the ending gave me anxiety. Like maybe the final 20% of the book had me sitting on an edge and that cliffhanger was a bit too much. Of course, with that cliffhanger The War of Two Queens instantly became one of my most anticipated releases for 2022.
A quote: “The heart doesn’t care how long you may have with someone.” Kieran looked over at me, his eyes sheltered. “It just cares that you have the person for as long as you can.”
My rating: 5/5 stars
